Lyric PRO 8 Promo Feature – Stereoscopic 3D

16 05 2011

This video highlights the new “Stereoscopic” feature of Lyric PRO, with which a designer can create 3D graphics packages, or use older 2D packages, which will literally pop off the screen when integrated into the 3D broadcast environment. A highlight of this feature is that graphics to not have to be “converted” to 3D. Any animations, 2D or 3D, can be played back stereoscopically.

2010 EMEA PR Review

18 01 2011

The year started out with a bang when Chyron supplied 3D stereoscopic graphics for the first-ever live broadcast of the Six Nations Rugby match of England vs. Wales. The broadcast from Twickenham Stadium on February 6th was viewed in more than 40, 3D-equipped cinemas around the UK and excited fans were able to share the best seat in the house.  Following the success of the first game, Chyron worked with Wurmers, SIS Live and Inition on the 27th of February match.

Later in the year, Chyron made history providing graphics for the first live stereoscopic 3D concert by German hip hop group Die Fantastischen Vier, also known as FANTA4. The concert managed by Mitteldeutsches Multimediazentrum Halle was held at Steintor-Varieté in Halle an der Saale on September 28th. Chyron’s revolutionary on-air graphics were the backbone of the stereoscopic experience and were displayed in over 90 cinemas in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Luxembourg. FANTA4 fans had the opportunity to see every graphic pop through the screen while being treated to a front row experience.

UK broadcast graphics company “MOOV,” was one of the first to realize the potential of Lyric PRO 8 in EMEA. In October 2010,  “MOOV” used Chyron’s HyperX graphics infrastructure for the Wimbledon tennis championship and prior to that during the summer Commonwealth Games for the BBC.  The biggest benefit of version 8 for “MOOV” during Wimbledon was to easily create “Seeds Boards” with corresponding animations before they actually knew the winners using Intelligent Conditional Transitions.  For the Commonwealth Games, “MOOV” created an original new “Coming Up” sequence for the multi-sport event that opened up with the New Delhi Skyline and numerous kites flying in the sky. Using the powerful, Inherit State feature, the sequence was able to display any country’s flags in any order, at any time with “turn-on-a-dime” flexibility.

In September, Chyron announced that they powered the newly launched Sky Sports News in HD, Europe’s first HD sports news channel. This latest push into the world of HD was yet another example of Sky’s dedication to broadcast excellence. This also marks the third time that Sky Sports has employed the use of Lyric PRO 8.  Chyron is a long time partner of Sky Sports News and has been an integral partner in the launch of the HD channel. Chyron’s involvement in this latest venture went beyond providing the graphic systems; Chyron’s dedicated Creative Services team worked closely with the Sports team to integrate the new captivating graphical look of the channel.

Wrapping up a successful year of EMEA PR, Chyron announced in December that sit-up shopping, one of the largest and fastest-growing TV retailers in the U.K., upgraded to a HyperX³ on-air graphics system, giving its broadcast presence a new look, thanks to the Chyron Creative Services team. Together, the HyperX³ system and graphics upgrade improve the quality and continuity of on-screen content while making it easier for sit-up shopping staff to enhance programming with motion graphics and 3D text elements. sit-up shopping launched the new look on its bid tv channel as part of a tenth birthday celebration.

Chyron HyperX3 On-Air Graphics System Leveraged On Canada’s First 3D Hockey Broadcast

14 12 2010

Chyron announced that two HyperX³ on-air graphics systems were used in Canada’s first 3D hockey broadcast, a matchup between longtime rivals, the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs, on CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada. During the Dec. 11th game at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre, the Chyron systems allowed for use of a dynamic 3D score bug and other graphics with 3D objects and animation in this landmark broadcast.

”CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada has led hockey coverage in Canada for close to six decades,” said Trevor Pilling, executive producer of CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada. “We were the first to introduce hockey in HD in 2003, and we’ve continued that spirit of innovation with Canada’s first 3D hockey broadcast. Working with Chyron systems, we were able to package our hockey graphics for the 3D environment and successfully integrate them into our broadcast workflow to provide a visually striking 3D viewing experience.”

Chyron’s flagship on-air graphics system, HyperX³, features seamless creation-to-playout capability, real-time 2D/3D animation, and a host of hardware and software features. The system is scalable to two independent channels and the 3D stereoscopic capability is a standard feature with the Lyric PRO 8 advanced creation and playout package. The power of HyperX³ and Lyric PRO 8 made it possible for CBC Sports to adapt some of its 2D images for 3D objects and animations that really stood out for those across Canada watching the hockey broadcast in 3D.

Leveraging the versatility of the HyperX³ and its integrated Lyric PRO 8 software, CBC Sports used a system capable of facilitating a new 3D score bug. During the game, the new score-generation system provided the game clock, penalties, and out-of-town scores.

“Being a former CBC Sports employee who used to use Chyron graphics for hockey games, I can greatly appreciate the work put into the production of such a prestigious Canadian event,” said Phil Carmichael, vice president, product marketing at Chyron. “It was a real honor for Chyron to be involved in this history-making hockey telecast.”

Germany’s MDR Further Expands Chyron Portfolio

11 11 2010

MDR, based in Leipzig, has expanded its already extensive Chyron portfolio. The German broadcaster, a long-standing Chyron advocate, has recently added three HyperX³ graphics systems and iRB to its current infrastructure, 15 HyperX graphics systems featuring iSQ and CAMIO, and Chyron’s news graphics management solution. The systems, which provide graphics and branding for MDR’s news bulletins, are installed in the broadcaster’s state-of-the-art graphics center.

Developed in conjunction with MDR, Chyron’s iRB is a browser-based tool, allowing anyone to create, share, and manage running orders via any LAN or WAN connection. Users can easily browse and fulfill Chyron graphics and clip templates and prepare a running order ready for immediate playout without interrupting the newsroom, while streamlining the production workflow.

iSQ, Chyron’s remote monitoring and playout application, features a thumbnail display of preview and air messages, giving MDR operators the ability to play out any message on any playlist, at any time. Using the HyperX systems, the MDR operators can control independent output channels across multiple devices of MOS-generated playlists via the iSQ interface. Chyron’s CAMIO manages the distribution of assets, ensuring that all assets are available for air — with simplified playout via the iSQ interface.

The new HyperX³ graphics systems, which include Chyron’s advanced creation and playout application Lyric PRO, add to MDR’s advanced Chyron feature set and sophisticated graphics workflow.

“Germany is a very important market for Chyron, and we are delighted to announce this latest sale to MDR,” said Kevin Prince, Chyron’s chief operating officer. “Chyron and MDR have a very strong relationship built on trust and understanding, and we are very happy to once again be a part of this latest development.”

CHYRON TEES UP WITH GOLF CHANNEL

28 07 2010

The new on air graphics for the Golf Channel scored a hole in one for Chyron, the leader in digital broadcast graphics.

Earlier this year, golf fans were treated to a fresh graphics look for the only channel devoted entirely to the sport – the Golf Channel. Chyron provided the hardware, software and creative services for the new look.

“Chyron has a long history with the Golf Channel. We worked with them last year to create Lyric PRO templates, and when they launched the new studio earlier this year. Our Creative Services constructed a new, 3D intensive look built using real time rendering capabilities of the Lyric software,” said Todd Martin, Vice President of Creative Services, Chyron.

Lyric PRO, Chryon’s flagship graphics creation and playback software, offers the ease and speed to create, update and playback real-time, high-end 3D animations to air. Lyric PRO is the choice of many Sports Broadcasters around the world.
